In answer to your question, yes, we feed the goats (and alpacas and chickens) more or less anything we come across that can be tossed over the fence. For most of the summer, we cut thistles and weeds with a scythe and fed them to the goats, but we ran out of thistles. Then we started in on tall grass. They also got the turnip tops (loved them), squash vines (not so much), and corn stalks (a huge hit). As well, we gave them tree trimmings, mostly from caragana bushes, and they were happy to eat those too. Next year, we hope to fence off a decent pasture for them, and they can go get their own, or even get a moveable electric fence so we can have them graze down the weeds, but for now, we’ve been bringing the goodies to them. Lazy goats!
